Valletta.
This image was captured while on holiday in the Maltese capitol of Valletta.
The fortified town was built after the Great Siege of Malta by the Ottoman Turks in 1565.
The fortifications were started by Grand Master Jean Parisot de la Valette in 1566 and completed three years later shortly before the building of the city itself.
During the Second World War German and Italian force's were unsuccessful in their attempt to starve the island into submission.
The above photograph was taken from close to the highest point in the picturesque Valletta looking towards the port.
